Rationale
As a tribute to Fr. O'Brien's paternal family, the three lions are derived from the arms of the Chief of the O'Brien Clan which was originally granted to him by King Henry VIII. The Cross Flory has long been associated with Saint Edward the Confessor, and is a reminder of Fr. O'Brien's Confirmation Patron Saint and a tribute to his maternal grandfather. Because the Cross Flory is adorned at the ends with fleur-de-lis, it is also a tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary whose own mission is inextricably linked with that of Her Son and His Cross. The two gold bees, while representing the letters in Fr. O'Brien's first and last names, are also symbolic of resurrection, industry, and indefatigable effort. The fact that the bees flank the Cross is a reminder that all of the natural order gives worship to God.
