Biographical information

Born in Monsanto, WA in 1907 and died in Portland, OR in 1992, Elvin Mason Byles was married in 1929 to Gwendolyn Lorraine Guthrie of Seattle, WA. They had three children, David Guthrie Byles(1936), Mason Elvin Byles (1938) and Charles Newton Byles (1940). Elvin had a B.S. degree in Engineering and spent his career in civil engineering. He was the sometimes Mayor of Monsanto, WA.

Design rationale

These arms incorporate the fir tree of the Pacific Northwest, both in the line of partition and in the crest. Both the arms and the crest also include the English lion, recalling the very English origins of this family.
