Design rationale

The wavy blue is supposed to symbolize my home on the banks of the Ohio River, the stars my family's origins in Savannah, GA, and the grizzly bear is a very poor play on my name. The keys represent my Catholic Faith, as a point of departure from my historically Protestant family. The crest represents the divine mandate that jurists temper justice with mercy. The motto is from Exodus: "And I will see the blood; and I will pass over you", which, while not a crie de'guerre, is still a frightening reminder of the most terrifying thing in the universe -- the Mercy of God.
