The City of Glendale, California

Registration number 20080906A

This certifies that the heraldic arms of City of Glendale, California are registered as an original design and are described by the blazon below

Arms: Argent, a peacock recursant Proper.
Crest: A bald eagle displayed Proper.

Design rationale

The arms appear at the center of the city's official seal. The design dates to September 1924 when local artist Hugh Maron won a $100 prize for his design in a contest sponsored by Charles L. Peckham and Associates. Mr. Maron included the peacock in his design because he had been inspired by Glendale’s 1923 Rose Parade Float, which was in the shape of a large peacock.
