Biographical information

Albert Wheatcroft Acklen Schmid was born September 4, 1968 at Austin, Texas, USA, to Thomas Henderson Schmid and Elizabeth Ann Wheatcroft. He is the eldest of four children.

He earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America in 1986 and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 1987. He took a Bachelor of Science degree in Individualized Studies from Charter Oak State College in 1997 and a Master of Arts degree in Gastronomy from the University of Adelaide in South Australia in 2006.

In the early years of his career he worked as a chef for a variety of restaurants, country clubs and Universities. In 1999, he joined the faculty at Sullivan College’s (now Sullivan University) National Center for Hospitality Studies as a Chef/Instructor teaching culinary related classes in the Culinary Arts Department. In 2004, he joined the Hospitality Management Department at Sullivan University, in part, to teach the class, Wine, Beers and Spirits a subject for which he wrote a text, The Hospitality Manager’s Guide to Wines, Beers, and Spirits (Prentice-Hall/Pearson Education, copyright 2004, 2008). In 2008, Schmid celebrated the release of the second edition of his book.

He is professionally certified as Certified Culinary Professional (CCP) by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and Certified Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE) by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, Master Certified Food Executive (MCFE) by the International Food Service Executives Association, Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) and Certified Executive Chef (CEC) by the American Culinary Federation and a Certified Online Instructor (COI) by LERN, Inc.

Albert married Kimberly Ann Hendrix of Louisville, Kentucky on January 15, 2003. He is the father to Thomas Richard (1994) and Michael Stuart Henry (1997) from a previous marriage.
