Biographical information

John Newton was born on May 27, 1954 at Long Beach, California. He attended California State University, Long Beach earning both B.A. (1981) and M.A. (1997) degrees. He has worked for over 25 years within the defense industry as a quality assurance engineer and is presently doing root-cause analysis and process control as a certified six sigma, black belt. Design rationale

The arms are primarily based on his English and Scottish ancestry. The cross shin-bones is a feature of the Newton family arms. Within the shield is the blue Spring Gentian representing the Newton family ancestral home of County Durham, England; opposite is the California poppy, signifying his status as a California native. The red lion featured on the crest represents the ancestral home of Perth, Scotland on his maternal side. Both globe and motto represent his continuing interest and teachings within the academic field of geography.
