The scales signify justice, the stars on the state map denote the 8 major correctional institutions, and the
"Nevada Battle Born badge" commemorates Nevada becoming a state during the Civil War. The arms are displayed in a circlet Or inscribed with the words "Nevada Department of Corrections" Azure.
